Here’s how to speak Spanish fluently…
To speak Spanish fluently involves mastering how to pronounce Spanish vowels correctly.
- “A” sounds like the ‘a’ in hat.
- “E” sounds like the ‘ay’ in day.
- “I” sounds like the ‘ee’ in feet.
- “O” sounds like the ‘o’ in bone.
- “U” sounds like the ‘oo’ in zoo.
- “O” and “U” sound shorter in Spanish.
Another thing to remember when learning to speak Spanish fluently is that you can combine strong and weak vowels with each other to form diphthongs (new sounds). The way you speak Spanish vowels is the same every time, so you don’t need to remember a lot of grammatical rules. This makes becoming fluent in Spanish that much easier compared to other languages.
You should also pay close attention to Spanish verb conjugations and the written accent as well if you want to speak Spanish fluently, because it’s there to indicate where to stress a word.
Accents in the Spanish language are very important because they are used to distinguish between nouns that are spelled identically; such as “papa” (potato) and “papá” (father) - and to distinguish between past and present tenses of verbs - such as “lloro” (I cry) and “lloró” (he cried).
An accent in words like “qué” (what), “cuándo” (when), “cómo” (how) and “dónde” (where) are used to indicate questioning, whereas words like “que”, “cuando”, “como” and “donde” which are unaccented in statements.
To speak what you’re reading in Spanish fluently, you need to be aware of the tilde. A tilde is a diacritical mark placed over the letter n (ñ) to change its pronunciation and to indicate an ‘ny’ sound, as in compañero (partner).
It’s very important to be able to pronounce accents and the letter ñ to speak Spanish correctly and fluently. There are also some Spanish verb tenses you’ll need to learn in order to be more successful at speaking the language fluently.
Finally, it is hard for English speakers to learn a language, like Spanish, with gender distinctions (because English words and articles don’t have a gender) so it is an important to learn to distinct that nouns end in either ‘a’ or ‘o’ the ones ending in ‘a’ are generally feminine and the ones ending in ‘o’ are generally masculine and their article will typically agree with them.
As you can see, learning how to speak Spanish fluently can be done. You just need to remember these tips and keep practicing your speech until it comes to you naturally.
